Session Description:

An unsanctioned social media page was created for the staff in the oncology area. It initially had a few followers and spread organically through word-of-mouth and from activity on newsfeeds. There were challenges around engagement from older staff, as they were more likely to use these platforms to stay connected to friends and family. Younger staff were more likely to participate in questions, critiques and sharing within a respectful environment. The page celebrates staff, posts practice reminders, shares interesting articles or trends in the field and serves as a communication tool between the educator and learners. Although not formally advertised, the organization’s Public Relations department discovered its existence and set out on a formal review of the page with the senior leadership team.

This presentation will serve to highlight the challenges and to celebrate the successes, as well as to provide recommendations for those interested in navigating these difficult waters.

In this session you will learn:

  • How to address the needs of multi-generational learners
  • The importance of including key stakeholders to support its existence despite opposition
  • How to decide which content to post and share
  • Engaging learners through different mediums
